Changes In Free & Reduced Meal Prices

Breakfast and Lunch and Free/Reduced Forms

The USDA just recently approved funding so that all students are allowed one free breakfast and lunch daily through the end of the 2020-2021 school year.  Free meals are available no matter the family meal application status.

Despite meals being free for the remainder of this school year we need your help in completing the online application for free and reduced meals, if you qualify.   The best way to apply is to use the online application, however paper applications are available at Mountain View and can be sent home with your student.  The district and our school can receive funding based on the number of families who qualify.

How does this impact my student at Mountain View Elementary?

Schools with higher free/reduced populations receive increased funding to provide support services (Title I).  Mountain View is not a Title I school for the 2020-21 school year.  Over the years Title I status has provided funds for 3 full-time and one part-time support personnel that assisted all students in reading and math.  With the loss of Title I status our school lost all 4 of those wonderful people, if we were to qualify this tremendous support would return for the 2021-22 school year.

Take Home Meals

Beginning in November our school will begin offering take home meals.  This means that your student can bring home one breakfast and one lunch for the days when they are not attending school in-person.  To participate you opt-in by letting your student’s teacher know that you would like to participate.  This way you will know that food is coming home and the food can be properly stored and/or refrigerated once it has made its way home.
